Engage Students Using Technology to Provide Real-World Course Connections

Would your students benefit from the chance to apply course concepts in a more meaningful way? Have you been looking for ideas to create a more engaging student experience by providing real-world connections to course material? Join us as we use multiple forms of technology in the classroom and online, as our students work cooperatively with professional organizations to create meaningful real-world course projects that develop higher-level thinking skills. In addition to providing technology resources, specific strategies to build professional relationships that create a strong network for students prior to graduation are provided. Our students have worked with professionals and organizations across public and private domains (e.g., Public Broadcasting Service, the Governor’s STEM Council, State Extension and Outreach, Department of Natural Resources, Area Education Agency, Health and Human Services). Leave with specific types of assignments that can be easily adapted for many courses.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Identify three forms of technology that provide real-world application of course concepts.
• Explain three strategies that can be implemented to build partnerships that support students.
• Create at least one course assignment that includes a real-world application.
