Advisor Resource Training Sessions (ARTS)
Are you a faculty or staff member with assigned advisees? Do you feel a bit nervous each time you receive an advising request? Attend a one-on-one session designed to build your confidence as an advisor! Your session will be customized to whatever advising needs you have. This can include, but is not limited to: navigating the degree audit, assisting with course planning, advising students on academic probation, making appropriate and timely referrals, and assisting with transfer planning.Email Erin Dooley at dooleye@otc.edu and let her know to expect you!

• Where can I go to learn more about my financial aid file?
• Do I need to be enrolled full-time to earn financial aid?

Students on academic probation have increased advising needs. In this session you'll learn about OTC's academic standing policy, the multiple impacts of a student's grade point average, and assisting your advisees in developing achievable education plans. At the end of this session, you'll be prepared for the next time an advisee says "I need released from academic probation."

Behind Closed Doors? How Interpersonal Violence Can Impact Student Performance
You interact with a student who often stares into space, doesn’t turn homework in on time, and frequently misses class. While all of these can be symptoms of an unmotivated student, they can also be symptoms of a much more troubling cause. Interpersonal violence has a wide reach in Southwest Missouri, and the effects of this violence reaches just as far. This session will dive into the complicated problem of interpersonal violence in Southwest Missouri and the effects of violence on concentration, performance, and degree completion. Resources will be identified both on campus and in the community to help students recover from violence and go on to be successful both academically and personally.
