MCCA My Favorite Lecture: Why I Teach Banned Books

October 11, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us on Tuesday, October 11 at 2 p.m. for MCCA’s next My Favorite Lecture! In this lecture, Professor Chris Otto of Jefferson College will explore the value of teaching banned books.

In light of Missouri SB 775 and the recent challenges to books in public schools, it is important to remind ourselves and our students that the freedom to read is worthy of defending. To fully realize the central aim of education, Professor Otto argues we must expose our students to a variety of books and perspectives.

Tune in as he addresses the current climate of challenges to books in Missouri, his experience with teaching books that have been or are currently challenged, and several student responses to the texts. Click HERE to register for this webinar.

Join your OTC Colleagues for an MCCA My Favorite Lecture watch party! We’ll gather in NKM-121 to watch Chris Otto’s lecture Why I Teach Banned Books.
